DO NOT REUSE MINERAL WATER BOTTLES

Many are unaware of poisoning caused by re-using plastic bottles.

Some of you may be in the habit of using your disposable mineral water bottles (e.g. Mum, Pran, Aqua, Fresh, etc….), keeping them in your car or at work.

Not a good idea.

It happened in Dubai, when a 12 years old girl died after a long usage (16 months) of SAFA mineral water bottle, as she used to carry the same fancy (painted by herself) bottle to her school daily. In a nutshell, the plastic (called polyethylene terephthalate or PET) used in these bottles contains a potentially carcinogenic element (something called Diethyl-hydroxylamine or DEHA). The bottles are safe for one-time use onle; if you must keep them longer, it should be no more than a few days, a week maximum and keep them away from heat as well.

Repeated washing and rinsing can cause the plastic to break down and the carcinogens (cancer-causing chemical agents) can leak into the water that YOU are drinking. Better to invest in water bottles that are really meant for multiple uses. There is not something we should be scrimping on.

Those of you with family- do please advise them, especially children.

This is a special! warning for families who hang on to these disposable bottles and use them for cold water in their fridge for ages.

When a bottle looks a bit yellow- please get rid of it as a precaution.

Please forward this information.

Dear Parent,

Subject: English Language.

English is a language-it is a skill subject, not a content subject like History or Geography.

Children have to learn the Four (4) skills-

(1) Listening- to be able to listen to English with a fair degree of understanding.

(2) Speaking-to be able to speak English using grammatically correct sentences, so as to express their ideas, describe something, narrate an experience or a happening.

(3) Reading- to be able to read an unfamiliar piece with a fairly good comprehension.

(4) Writing- to be able to write correct English. To be able to write effectively. If you want to contribute towards the language development of your children, then the best thing you can do is to:-

(a)   Spend some time in conversing in English with the children.

(b)   Develop a home library-cultivate the habit of reading. Set aside a time for reading. This will help in building up the expression & the vocabulary of the children. Expose the children to abridged versions of classics.

(c)    Restricted T. V. viewing- let children listen to standard English by viewing channels like Animal Planet, Discovery and B.B.C. etc.

Language is learnt by exposure. So speaking the language, reading good books & magazines etc is very essential. There is no substitute to the above-neither internet nor tuitions.
